This work went through a number of phases. The orange white and blue background developed early on, but the rest of the composition was re-worked several times. Sometimes making these pieces can seem like a process of turning pastel sticks into a pile of dust on my studio floor. I am happy with how the dark colors and solid black lines on the bottom of the piece balance out the lighter colors at the top. After the success of “The Trial” from Friday I was awfully tempted to put some little monsters in here, and you can see remnants of two alligator creatures resembling a character from a series of comics I have drawn for MIT’s Voo Doo humor magazine.
I started this work while listening to Another Green World By Brian Eno which set the tone for an etherial landscape. I listened to about half of The Campfire Headphase by Boards of Canada after that before switching to Cornelius’s Point because I decided I needed something with more energy in it.

I really like the composition of this. Those are sneaky alligators!
