Mondrian is probably rolling in his grave.  Whatever.  I know that squares with color in them are not all that Neoplasticism is all about but I am pretty sure it’s close to all that it’s about and so I just added in a naked lady and some of those palm fronds everyone likes and also yes there are some aliens and alligators in there as well and everyone is just having a grand old time. No but seriously this piece is about experimenting with how to incorporate the figure (ie naked lady) into an abstract composition. I admit I was thinking of Klimnt as well and also that goddess character from that web comic I habitually neglect to update.

The composition feels kind of all over the place, but I felt it was important to stay loose. At least it’s not 100% scribbles like you’ve probably been starting to expect from me.

For music this time I was listening to WMBR 88.1‘s February 20th broadcast of Subject to Change, which was an excellent program and I suggest you all go listen to it.

  1. Loose composition? Why not, it’s what’s making this so vital. I also like the colors and alligators, but can’t see any of the aliens mentioned (where are they?). Also, no cadmium, right? ;)

  2. No cadmium, at least I’m pretty sure there is no cadmium. I don’t actually know for sure what pigments are used in the pastels. The aliens are the little green circles with lines coming out the bottoms of them.

  3. Ah, thanx for answering! I kinda thought those were abstract trees when I looked at the piece first, but now I see your aliens… I somehow find it scary not to know what pigments and stuff are in pastels + paints (yeah, I’m paranoid still), but since you don’t eat them and just use them to make something beautiful, I try not to think of that fact too much.
