40" x 30" acrylic on canvas

I just love all the action on this exciting 40″ x 30″ gallery depth canvas. Seriously. Sitting here, writing this, I have the advantage of knowing what my next few paintings after this one look like and there is some pretty important work here that I seem to be sticking with. My wet on wet technique is more fully developed in this painting than in the previous few. There are still a lot of intentional drips, but I’m over the novelty of it and am using them with a little more restraint. The painting is just one solid drip. I also like the contrast between the swooshy blendy soft colored brush strokes and the hard long dark black and white lines. Some of the lines are applied by throwing the paint. With some practice you can get pretty good at putting a line where you want it using throwing. Also some splatters.

The cartoony elements in some of my previous work is also starting to drain out of this composition. Yeah there are still some circles and “u” shapes that can be read as open and closed eyes but it’s ancillary to the overall thrust of the composition.
